Despite near record-level listing prices in the greater Tokyo area, this month on Real Estate Japan we are continuing to see strong demand from buyers interested in buying first homes and investment properties. In this month’s installment of what you can buy in Tokyo, we feature homes in the Tokyo suburbs with a list price of $230,000 or less.
The average listing price for a new condominium in Tokyo is ¥59.08 million ($535,000), a year-on-year increase of 7.6%, and the highest level since 1990 (during the bubble years).
The situation is comparable in the re-sale market. The average listing price for a 70-sqm single-family house in Tokyo is about ¥54.30 million. In Osaka, the average listing price is less than half in Tokyo: ¥25.73 million.
So when we are talking about houses with a list price of $230,000 (¥25 million), we’re looking at properties that are listing for 40% of the Tokyo average.
