Yokushitsu Kansouki
浴室乾燥機, よくしつかんそうき
- English definition: Bathroom dryer
- This is a bathroom drying and ventilation system that warms and ventilates the air in the bathroom and can be used to dry laundry.
Good to know
- In Japan, it is not standard for apartments to come equipped with washers and dryers.
- In Japan it is also common for people to dry their laundry on the balcony or by hanging it inside their homes, rather than using a dryer. However, in the winter, there may be stretches of days with inclement weather making it difficult to properly dry your laundry outside. This is when a bathrom dryer system can be a nice amenity to have.
- Yokushitu (浴室) literally means “bath room” (the room where you bathe).
- Kansou (乾燥) means “drying”
- Ki (機) means “machine” or “device”
- Japanese apartments can also be highly susceptible to mold and it’s important to properly ventilate your home and regularly wipe down condensation on surfaces. One way to reduce humidity in your apartment is to run the bathroom dryer system. For a detailed explanation of how to keep your apartment ventilated and mold-free, please see: Japanese apartment air vents: How and why to use them
- On Real Estate Japan, if a property has a yokushitsu kansouki drying system installed in the bathroom, the agent will provide this information in the “Features” section of the listing.
