床暖房, ゆかだんぼう

  • English definition: Underfloor heating
  • This a heating mechanism that generates radiant heat using sub-floor hot water pipes, warm air ducts, or electrically heated wires. It is considered a relatively energy-efficient heating method.
  • It is available as a feature in some rental apartments and single-family homes; and can be installed by a builder in newly constructed homes.
  • The kanji 床 is read “yuka” and means “floor”.
  • The kanji 暖房 is read “danbou” and means “heating”.
