If you think your home and workspace should be more than just a functional box and especially if you want to be at the pulsing center of it all in Tokyo, the PORTAL Apartment & Art POINT may be just the place for you.
The brand new PORTAL Apartment & Art POINT is a unique 11-story renovated vintage apartment building, in an amazing location just a 5-min walk from Shibuya Station.
However, to call it just an “apartment building” would be to miss the concept behind this new style of living. This gorgeously renovated building is meant to bring together people from different creative industries and nationalities in a designer building that combines living, working, and socializing into one stunning space.
Imagine relaxing in your well-appointed designer serviced apartment…
Complete with high-end fixtures and appliances:
Or maybe this more traditionally designed apartment is more your style?
Whichever you choose, enjoy the highest standards in concept and design, from the bathroom fixtures to kitchen appliances.
If you don’t feel like cooking, just grab a bite at the food truck at the backyard cafe on the first floor.
Then zip up to the residents-only open-air rooftop lounge on the 12th-floor, kick back, and enjoy the view of Shibuya below.
But if you must get some work done, then head to the work lounge on the first floor.
Or you may want to greet your guests or just hang out with other residents in the comfortable lounge.
If all this isn’t enough to convince you that the PORTAL Apartment & Art POINT is the place to stay in Shibuya for anyone interested in mixing with other creative types, let’s talk about Shibuya as you know it now and Shibuya as it’s being re-made.
The New Shibuya
You may know the mega-hub of Shibuya for its sensory overload of frenetic crowds, giant video screens, and too-cool-for-school fashionistas, but even as you’re inching your way across Shibuya Scramble, this mini-city is being re-developed as an international business center for the next century. Many of the re-development projects will be completed well in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The purpose of the re-development, led by the Tokyu Corporation, is to make the area near Shibuya station more functional and organized, with the goal of promoting the growth of businesses and cultural exchange. The idea is to make Shibuya into a futuristic city: a mixture of New York’s Times Square and Silicon Valley. Central to this vision is to turn Shibuya into a business district that will attract international companies and business people.
For example, in the Sakuragaoka neighborhood, south of the station and west of the Yamanote line, where the PORTAL Apartment & Art POINT is located, Tokyu plans to build two new skyscrapers. Facilities to attract foreign businesses and workers are integrated into the skyscrapers that will anchor the planned neighborhoods.
In addition to office and commercial space, there will be space to house international medical facilities, high-end apartments, serviced apartments and childcare facilities specifically aimed at ex-pats. Areas have also been set aside for facilities to help promote start-up businesses.
The PORTAL Apartment & Art POINT, owned by the Tokyu Corporation, is a small but very cool and vibrant part of this re-development.
Live, Work, Socialize
The PORTAL Apartment & Art POINT is meant for people who don’t want to just stay in their rooms. Currently, they are looking for a mix of creative tenants to occupy the serviced apartments.
Here, you’ll have a chance to meet people who work in the building (in the premium offices on the 10th and 11th-floors and in the other offices on the second, third, and fourth floors) and the tenants who live in the regular (non-serviced) apartments on the fifth to seventh floors.
The relaxing rooftop deck and lounge, backyard, and first-floor lounge are all designed to make it easy for you to get comfortable and mix with the other people in the building. This is a truly unique opportunity to stay in a serviced apartment where design and community are a part of the experience.
After all, what’s the point of being in Tokyo and staying in Shibuya, in particular, if not to get out and meet other people who are also doing interesting things!
