Renting in the Off-Peak Season: What can you rent in Tokyo for $700?

We combed through the listings to find this month’s best apartments that are both reasonably priced and centrally located.

The average rent in Tokyo‘s 23 Wards varies a lot by location. However, the overall average is about ¥97,000 ($864) a month or about ¥2,936 per sqm.

In this article, we feature apartments with a Total Monthly Cost of $700 (¥79,000) or less, or about 19% less than the Tokyo average.

One good thing to know about looking for an apartment in November and December is that this is considered the low season for the rental market.

Agents and landlords are offering great deals this season as they are trying to fill vacancies. You may be able to ask the agent or property manager for one month’s free rent or to waive key money, in some cases. It does not hurt to ask!

The apartments below all require two-year leases. If you are looking for a short-term rental, please use this link: Tokyo short-term apartments.

Also, when you are budgeting your initial move-in costs, remember to consider the deposit, agency fee, and possibly key money. For more info on this, please see: How to avoid hidden costs when renting an apartment in Japan.
