What can you rent for $550 in Tokyo this month?

In this month’s installment in the “What can you rent in Tokyo” series, we feature properties that can be yours for a total monthly cost of $550 (¥62,000) or less.

This rent level is several hundred dollars less than the average rent for a small studio apartment in the city, but if you are willing to compromise on commute time, age of the building, and size, you can find an affordable home!

Also keep in mind that renting an apartment in Japan often involves “hidden costs” both when you move in and monthly. For more on this, please see: how to avoid hidden costs when renting an apartment in Japan.

In the examples below, we also give you the estimated total cost to move in, so you can get a more realistic idea of what to budget.
